Central Intelligence Agency
The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) is an independent federal agency responsible for providing national security intelligence to policymakers in the United States. It was created in 1947, and its primary purpose is to serve as a source of foreign intelligence information for the President and his senior staff. The CIA collects, evaluates, and disseminates vital international intelligence that helps protect America’s security interests against threats from abroad.
In addition to gathering data through human sources on the ground or via electronic surveillance methods such as drones or satellites, it also uses clandestine operations—secret activities conducted away from public view—to gain information about other nations’ governments and militaries. Although they do not operate within U.S borders itself unless authorized by law enforcement agencies or Congress, their mission involves protecting American citizens worldwide by monitoring potential terrorist activity around them; uncovering weapons of mass destruction development programs; supporting military operations overseas; countering instability caused by civil unrest in foreign countries; collecting evidence related to criminal investigations both domestically and internationally; overseeing arms control agreements between two countries ;and more .
In recent years ,the CIA has been criticized for using enhanced interrogation techniques during interrogations which have been deemed unethical . They have also faced criticism over their involvement with certain political regimes throughout history . Despite this however ,the CIA continues its work today across multiple platforms in order to ensure global peace & stability .
