Council of Economic Advisors
The Council of Economic Advisors is an executive branch agency in the United States government that provides economic advice to the President. The current chairperson is Dr. Heather Boushey, and it was established by Congress through the Employment Act of 1946, which directed presidents to seek “objective economic analysis” from a nonpartisan body with expertise in economics. The council has three members who are appointed by the president and confirmed by the Senate for four-year terms.
The Council’s role is primarily advisory; its primary mission is “to provide independent objective economic advice on domestic and international issues.” It advises both Congress and the president on matters related to fiscal policy, taxation policy, regulatory reform efforts, trade negotiations, macroeconomic performance targets such as inflation or employment rate goals, welfare programs like Social Security or unemployment insurance benefits policies regarding poverty reduction initiatives among other areas. Additionally they have also previously provided research assistance to non governmental organizations (NGOs).
In addition to providing counsel directly to elected officials throughout their time in office each year they publish two reports: An Annual Report evaluating how well national objectives were met over past years plus special updates about new topics affecting America’s economy such as changes due to tax legislation etc., then there’s also a Mid-Session Review which assesses long term growth prospects based upon short range forecasts made at beginning of fiscal year . These documents help inform public opinion surrounding decisions being made within government agencies so citizens can understand why certain actions may be taken or not taken depending circumstance involved .
