Yale University is an American private Ivy League research university located in New Haven, Connecticut. Founded in 1701, it is the third-oldest institution of higher education in the United States and one of the nine Colonial Colleges chartered before the American Revolution. Yale has since become a global leader in teaching, research and innovation.
In recent years, Yale’s endowment has been used to fund cryptocurrency initiatives across its campus. This includes support for student-led organizations such as Blockchain at Yale (BAY) and The Crypto Currency Club at Yale (C3Y). BAY is a platform that encourages students to explore applications of blockchain technology while C3Y provides members with investment advice on cryptocurrencies through seminars and workshops. Additionally, both groups are active participants at hackathons related to crypto assets.
Moreover, faculty members have begun conducting research on topics related to crypto assets including distributed ledger technology as well as macroeconomic analysis of digital currencies like Bitcoin or Ethereum among other projects. In March 2018, Professor William Goetzmann launched his “Crypto Assets & Fintech” course which allows undergraduate students from all schools within Yale to gain insights into how financial markets are evolving due to blockchain technologies and other innovations associated with fintech startups.
