Google Authenticator is a two-factor authentication (2FA) tool created by Google. It works with popular websites and applications, allowing users to log in securely using their smartphones or tablets.
The Google Authenticator app generates a six-digit one-time passcode on your device, which you can use instead of your username and password when signing into your account. This provides an extra level of security by making sure that only the user has access to their accounts even if someone else knows their login information. When signing into a website or application that supports 2FA, you are prompted for both your username and password as well as the code from the Google Authenticator app.
Using Google Authenticator is easy – simply download the app from either Apple’s App Store or Android’s Play Store onto your mobile device, then open it up and add an account. You will be asked to provide some basic information about yourself such as email address and name before continuing to scan a QR code displayed onscreen with the camera of your device or manually enter a secret key provided by the website/application. Once completed, you’ll see 6 digit codes appearing every 30 seconds in order to authenticate yourself while logging in whenever required.
Google Authenticator allows users more control over how they secure their data online without having to remember complicated passwords all the time; however it should not be used alone as its security measures aren’t foolproof – make sure that you have other methods in place like setting up strong passwords along with this system for optimal protection against cyber threats!
