The U.S. Ambassador to Argentina, Marc R. Stanley, has expressed admiration for the groundbreaking approach taken by Unblock Computing, a Bitcoin mining company, in utilizing flared gas to generate electricity. Ambassador Stanley has commended this initiative for its dual benefits: aiding Argentina in achieving its climate objectives and promoting energy conservation.
Argentina’s Climate Objectives
Embajador Marc R. Stanley, the United States Ambassador to Argentina, has voiced his approval for Unblock Computing’s plan to generate electricity through the utilization of flared gas. According to Stanley, this ingenious strategy, developed in collaboration with Crusoe Energy Systems, not only contributes to Argentina’s pursuit of its climate goals but also fosters energy efficiency.
Ambassador Stanley’s remarks, shared through X (formerly known as Twitter), come in the wake of reports that the Argentine Bitcoin miner has secured a $15 million investment to power its operations in Vaca Muerta. Situated within the Neuquén Basin in northern Patagonia, Vaca Muerta is renowned for housing one of the world’s largest shale gas reserves.
Expressing his enthusiasm for the innovative electricity generation method devised by these two companies, the U.S. Ambassador commented:
“It’s heartening to witness U.S. and Argentine companies collaborating to address challenges and contribute to environmental well-being. The ingenious approach adopted by Crusoe and Unblock Global involves harnessing methane combustion for electricity generation. This not only assists Argentina in meeting its climate objectives but also promotes energy efficiency and financial gains. Truly remarkable.”
In a December 13 post on X, Tomas Ocampo, the founder of Unblock Computing, highlighted that the $15 million investment will enable Crusoe Energy Systems and its partners to produce $200 million worth of oil while minimizing emissions.
