Compound (COMP) is an Ethereum-based decentralized financial protocol that enables users to lend and borrow cryptocurrency assets. It was developed by Compound Labs, a San Francisco based company founded in 2017.
The platform works by connecting lenders with borrowers through smart contracts on the blockchain network. Lenders can deposit their digital assets into Compound accounts and earn interest while they remain there; similarly, borrowers can take out loans using these funds as collateral. The amount of interest earned or paid depends on supply and demand for each asset.
Compound’s primary goal is to facilitate open access to money markets from anywhere in the world without requiring traditional banking services such as credit checks or expensive transaction fees typically associated with them. The platform also provides liquidity solutions for developers building finance related applications which eliminates middlemen like brokers or exchanges when trading cryptoassets .
