John Ray

John Ray (18 June 1627 – 17 January 1705) was an English naturalist, ornithologist, entomologist and botanist. He is regarded as one of the earliest British naturalists to study and write about plants and animals in their native habitats. Born in Black Notley, Essex, he studied at Oxford University before travelling extensively throughout England, Scotland and Europe observing plants and animals.

Ray wrote a number of books on his findings including The Ornithology of Francis Willughby (1678), Historia Plantarum (1686–1704) and Methodus Plantarum Nova (1703). He also published several catalogues that listed plant species alphabetically with descriptions for each species. His system of classification was later adopted by Carl Linnaeus which ultimately led to binomial nomenclature for scientific names.

In terms of cryptocurrency studies, John Ray is best remembered for pioneering the idea that currency should be based upon assets rather than debt or gold reserves; this model had a major influence on modern cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin which are based upon asset-based systems rather than fiat money reserves held by central banks or governments. This concept has been embraced by many nations who have gone on to create their own digital currencies backed by physical resources such as oil/gas deposits or precious metals like gold/silver etc..
