The Supreme Court of South Africa has rejected Riccardo Spagni’s appeal to stop his extradition from the United States back to South Africa. Basically, the court said he didn’t give good enough reasons for why his extradition should be cancelled.

Riccardo Spagni’s Plea Denied

A court in South Africa said no to Riccardo Spagni’s plea for not being brought back from the United States to South Africa. The court decided this because when Riccardo was asked if he wanted to come back, he answered yes and had a lawyer with him who made sure that his rights were protected.

Earlier in July 2022, according to CryptokenTop News, Spagni agreed to go back to South Africa but with the condition that his “release on warning” had not been cancelled. This understanding between him and the government then allowed authorities to move him from the United States into South African law enforcement.

Before going to South Africa, Spagni filed a legal case in the SCA that criticized how a court had dealt with his extradition hearing. His lawsuit was declined at first, and he believed that the request for him to be extradited shouldn’t have been sent by the prosecutor general.

Court Rules on Useless Debate

The head of public prosecutors said that the debate about the case was rendered useless because Spagni had already been taken away by South African authorities.

The court ruled that it could not decide if the extradition process was valid, because this wouldn’t change anything anyway. Their decision to dismiss the appeal was based on this fact alone.

Meanwhile, the report said that Spagni’s trial will carry on at Cape Town’s court.
