Zhou Weidi (born 1982) is a Chinese entrepreneur and investor in the cryptocurrency space. He is best known as the founder of Bitmain Technologies, one of the world’s leading cryptocurrency mining companies, which he founded in 2013.
Weidi was born and raised in Sichuan Province, China. After completing his undergraduate degree from Southwest University for Nationalities in Chengdu, he studied software engineering at Harbin Institute of Technology before joining Google’s Beijing office as an engineer. During his time at Google, Weidi began exploring Bitcoin and blockchain technology more deeply. This led to his vision for Bitmain Technologies – a company focused on developing specialized hardware for use in cryptocurrency mining operations around the world.
Bitmain Technologies has since become one of the biggest players in the industry with offices across Asia Pacific region including Hong Kong and Taiwan; North America including USA and Canada; Europe including UK, Netherlands and Switzerland; Middle East & Africa including UAE; Latin America including Mexico; Israel etc., employing over 2000 people worldwide with annual revenue estimated to be close to $3 billion USD according to reports by Bloomberg News Agency..
In addition to running Bitmain Technologies, Weidi also serves as an advisor or board member on several other prominent blockchain-related projects such as AntShares/NEO (now rebranded as NEO), Qtum Foundation and BTCChina Exchange among others. He has also been involved with various venture capital investments ranging from early stage startups to large public companies like OkCoin International Ltd., Huobi Global Limited etc.. His investment style focuses heavily on long term value creation through technology innovation backed up by strong execution capabilities within teams that he backs up financially or provides strategic guidance too .
As part of his philanthropic work , Zhou has donated close to $50 million USD worth of computers towards education programs around China which are geared towards teaching young students about computer programming .
