World Economic Forum
The World Economic Forum (WEF) is an international organization for public-private cooperation, headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland. Founded in 1971 as a non-profit foundation by Klaus Schwab, the WEF’s mission is to improve the state of the world through its engagement with business, political, academic and other leaders of society across sectors to shape global, regional and industry agendas. The organization works within six strategic areas: Digital Economy & Society; Globalization & Trade; Employment & Skills; Innovation & Entrepreneurship; Environment & Resource Security; and Governance Systems.
At annual meetings held around the world since 1971, participants from government institutions and civil society organizations have discussed issues ranging from economic growth strategies to climate change mitigation efforts. The WEF has also organized conferences such as those on artificial intelligence or blockchain technology that bring together experts from various fields.
In addition to its core activities focused on dialogue facilitation and thought leadership development among key stakeholders in global affairs topics, the WEF also produces reports on various topics related to socioeconomic progress including competitiveness indices measuring performance of countries at a global level as well as research about specific industries like financial services or digital finance technology trends.
Cryptocurrency specialists should be aware that although cryptocurrencies are not regulated by any central government body yet they still play an important role when it comes to developing policies concerning digital economy initiatives established by the World Economic Forum. This includes conversations around crypto asset classifications by governments worldwide but also discussions about emerging technologies such as blockchain which can help support more decentralized models of financial intermediation with new levels of efficiency and trustworthiness between participants than traditional banking systems offer today.
