Tangle

Tangle

Tangle is a type of distributed ledger technology (DLT) developed by the IOTA Foundation, a non-profit organization based in Germany. It is an open source protocol that enables secure communication and transactions between two or more parties without relying on any third party intermediary or central authority. Tangle is most often compared to blockchain, another popular DLT, but it has some unique features that make it stand out from other types of DLTs.

The main feature of Tangle is its decentralized nature; there are no miners involved in verifying transactions as with traditional blockchains such as Bitcoin and Ethereum. Instead, each transaction must be individually approved by two randomly chosen previous transaction approvers before being added to the ledger, which makes it impossible for malicious actors to manipulate data stored on the ledger. This process also eliminates the need for fees associated with mining operations since all users have equal responsibility when approving transactions.

Another key feature of Tangle is its scalability; unlike many other distributed ledgers whose performance decreases as more nodes are added to their network, Tangle can scale infinitely due to its unique architecture which allows for faster processing speeds even with larger amounts of traffic. Additionally, because there are no miners involved in processing transactions, users don’t have to wait long times for confirmation like they do with conventional blockchains such as Bitcoin and Ethereum. This makes it ideal for applications where real-time data transfer and analysis are necessary such as IoT networks or intelligent machines that require instant feedback from multiple sources within short timeframes.

Finally, Tangle’s security model provides assurance that data stored on the ledger cannot be altered or corrupted since each transaction must be verified by two random preselected approvals before being added onto the chain permanently . To further protect against potential attacks , IOTA implements cryptographic algorithms such as Curl , Kerl , Troika , etc., which allow users access securely into their wallets without having to reveal their private keys .

Overall , Tangle offers several advantages over existing distributed ledgers systems including decentralization , scalability , improved speed of transaction validation and enhanced security measures . It therefore presents itself as an attractive option for developers looking for alternative solutions when building next generation applications .
