SEC Investor Advisory Committee
The SEC Investor Advisory Committee (IAC) is a committee of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) established to provide expert advice on the regulation of securities markets. The IAC consists of both public and industry representatives who are experts in areas such as investment management, asset management, accounting, auditing, corporate governance, capital formation and investor protection.
The IAC was created in 2010 by Congress under the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act with the purpose of providing independent advice to the SEC on various regulatory issues related to securities markets. The Committee meets at least four times a year at different locations across the United States. At each meeting they consider topics that include but are not limited to: (1) developments in financial technology; (2) best practices for protecting investors; (3) suggestions for improving transparency within capital markets; and (4) emerging trends or challenges facing market participants or regulators .
From time to time ,the SEC may solicit additional input from IAC members through requests for comment or formal rulemaking proceedings . This input can be instrumental in shaping how regulations affect particular products or services offered by companies operating within these industries including those associated with cryptocurrencies.
In addition ,the IAC serves as an important resource for those seeking information about current regulatory frameworks governing investments both domestically and internationally . Its membership base provides insight into potential future changes that could arise due to legislative action , technological advancements ,or other unforeseen events which may have an impact on our financial system .
