Sam Bankman-Fried (born October 16, 1988) is an American entrepreneur and investor in the cryptocurrency industry. He is the founder of Alameda Research, a quantitative trading firm focused on digital assets, as well as FTX Exchange and Serum DEX. Bankman-Fried has been involved in numerous other projects since entering the cryptocurrency space in 2014, including founding Ledger Prime and serving as CTO at Quantstamp.
Bankman-Fried began his career with a degree from Stanford University’s Symbolic Systems Program before working at Google for two years following graduation. In 2012 he joined Y Combinator’s startup accelerator program to pursue his own entrepreneurial ventures. After launching several companies over the next few years which had varying levels of success, he shifted focus to cryptocurrencies in 2014 when he became an early miner of Bitcoin Cash and Dogecoin.
