### Ripple Gary Gensler
Gary Gensler is an American economist and the current Chairman of the Board of Governors for the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). He has been appointed to lead regulatory efforts concerning cryptocurrencies, including Ripple’s XRP token.
Gensler first made his name in government circles as a financial regulator during the Clinton administration, serving as Under Secretary of Domestic Finance at Treasury from 1997-1998 and then chairing President Obama’s Financial Stability Oversight Council from 2009-2014 while also working on numerous other high-profile roles throughout his career.
Since joining the CFTC in 2019, Gensler has become one of cryptocurrency’s most outspoken regulators. His views on blockchain technology have generated considerable excitement amongst both proponents and critics alike due to their nuanced approach which takes into account legal changes that may be needed to ensure safe markets for investors and users alike. At times he speaks out about risks associated with digital assets such as lack of investor protection or market manipulation/fraud potential but also recognizes how powerful this technology could be if used properly.
One particular focus area for Gensler during his tenure has been Ripple’s XRP token which was recently labeled by the SEC as an unregistered security requiring additional regulation before it can legally trade in US markets again (though some exchanges are still offering trading options outside these restrictions). It remains unclear what future regulations will look like however speculation suggests they could bring greater clarity over whether or not XRP should be classified as a security – something many believe would open up more opportunities than limitations when investing/trading in this asset class going forward.
