### Richard Werner
Richard Werner is a German economist and professor at the University of Southampton. He is best known for his research on monetary policy, banking reform and economic development in Japan and other countries. He is also a prolific author, having written numerous books such as Princes of the Yen (2003) and New Paradigm in Macroeconomics: Solving the Riddle of Japanese Macroeconomic Performance (2005).
In recent years, Werner has become an advocate of cryptocurrency technology and its potential to revolutionize finance, particularly with regard to democratizing access to financial services for individuals who lack traditional bank accounts or credit cards. In 2019 he published Stealing Fire from the Gods: The Complete Guide to Crypto Currency Investing wherein he outlines his vision for cryptocurrencies becoming increasingly integrated into mainstream financial markets. He has also been vocal about how blockchain technology can be used in conjunction with existing regulatory systems to create trustless exchanges that allow anyone with internet access to purchase stock directly from companies without going through brokers or banks.
Werner’s work has received increasing attention due both to his expertise in monetary economics as well as his enthusiasm for cryptocurrencies; he has appeared on numerous television programs discussing these topics including BBC Radio 4’s Money Box Live programme where he discussed “how blockchain could help reduce poverty” by providing efficient digital payments infrastructure even in impoverished regions lacking traditional banking infrastructures.
