Peter Orszag is an American economist, government official, and corporate executive. He currently serves as the Chairman of Financial Advisory at Lazard Ltd., a global financial services firm. Previously, he served as Director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) under President Barack Obama from 2009 to 2010 and was appointed by Obama to his National Economic Council in 2008. From 2011 to 2014, he worked at Citigroup as Vice Chairman for Global Banking.
Orszag earned both his bachelor’s degree in economics from Princeton University in 1991 and his Ph.D in economics from The London School of Economics in 1997. His research has focused on budgeting processes, health care reform, economic growth policy, fiscal deficits and other topics related to macroeconomics.
In July 2019 it was announced that Orszag would join the board of directors at cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase.[1] As a director on its board he will assist with strategic initiatives such as investments into new products or technologies while guiding Coinbase’s vision for institutional customers.[2] With this move Peter is set to become one of few Wall Street veterans who have taken up positions within crypto space.[3]
