What is the NBA?
The National Basketball Association (NBA) is a professional basketball league in North America. It consists of 30 teams, 29 from the United States and one from Canada, as well as an office based in New York City. The NBA was founded on June 6th, 1946 and has since grown to become one of the most popular sports leagues in the world. The season runs from October through April with playoffs extending into June. Each team plays 82 regular season games with the top 8 teams advancing to a four-round playoff tournament culminating in the Finals between two best-of-seven series winners.
The current commissioner of the NBA is Adam Silver who succeeded David Stern on February 1st, 2014. The league’s headquarters are located at Olympic Tower at 645 Fifth Avenue in Midtown Manhattan.
