Montenegro is a small country located in the Balkans region of Europe. It has a population of just over 600,000 people and covers an area of 13,812 square kilometers. The country has been gaining attention due to its adoption of cryptocurrency as one of its main forms of currency.
In 2017 Montenegro became the first nation in Europe to officially recognize cryptocurrency as legal tender with their “Law on Digital Assets” legislation. This law established regulations for dealing with cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, Ethereum and others. Since then it has become a popular destination for investors and businesses that deal in cryptocurrency related activities.
The government also launched the Montenegrin Cryptocurrency Exchange (MCE) which allows users to buy/sell digital assets like Bitcoin, Ethereum, Ripple etc., using local fiat currencies or other crypto coins like Litecoin and DASH etc., from anywhere in the world with lower fees compared to international exchanges like Bitstamp or Kraken . MCE also provides trading services for those wishing to speculate on short-term price movements through margin trading options available on the platform.
The popularity of cryptocurrencies have started growing among ordinary citizens too who are now using them as payment methods at several stores around Montenegro’s capital city Podgorica. There are even ATMs where people can withdraw cash after exchanging their cryptos into local currency – Euro or Serbian dinar (RSD). In addition to this there have been several initiatives by private companies aimed at educating locals about blockchain technology and encouraging businesses to accept payments made via cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin Cash & Dash etc..
Overall it seems that Montenegro is well ahead when it comes to embracing new technologies especially when it comes down to digital currencies!
