Monetary Policy
Monetary policy is an economic tool used by central banks and governments to influence the economy. It involves managing the supply of money, setting interest rates, and controlling inflation. At its most basic level, monetary policy is used by a government or central bank to manage the quantity of currency in circulation, regulate credit availability, determine foreign exchange rates and set benchmark lending rates for commercial banks. The goal of monetary policy is usually two-fold: to promote price stability (low inflation) and full employment (maximum sustainable output).
In relation to cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin or Ethereum, their monetary policies are determined by code written into their underlying protocol which determines how many coins will be created over time and how quickly they can be mined. This differs from traditional fiat currencies that have an issuing authority with more power over its’ creation, regulation and circulation. Through this decentralized system of control these digital assets attempt to maintain low levels of inflation while protecting against manipulation from any single entity attempting to gain control over them.
Cryptocurrency holders who are interested in understanding more about specific projects’ monetary policies can often find information on those project’s websites which provide details regarding block rewards along with other related technical specifications including hashing algorithms & difficulty adjustment schedules when applicable.
