It uses cryptography to secure and verify transactions as well as to control the creation of new units of a particular cryptocurrency. Unlike traditional currencies that are issued through central banks, Bitcoin operates independently without such authority or regulating agency. As a result, it is considered both decentralized and deflationary due to its finite supply which makes it scarce over time.
