What is ICP?
ICP (Internet Computer Protocol) is a blockchain-based technology platform that aims to revolutionize the internet. It was created by DFINITY, an open source software organization. The goal of ICP is to provide an alternative decentralized cloud computing infrastructure that can handle the demands of today’s digital economy and Internet applications. This offers users faster speeds, greater scalability, and improved security compared to existing solutions such as Amazon Web Services or Google Cloud Platform.
How does ICP work?
The core of the ICP network is based on its own custom consensus algorithm called Threshold Relay which allows for rapid block generation times without sacrificing decentralization or security. Additionally, it uses a unique approach called “chain-sharding” which allows for data to be split into separate “shards” in order to increase speed and scalability even further. Furthermore, nodes are incentivized with native tokens called Internet Computer Tokens (ICT). These are used as fuel for running transactions on the network as well as providing rewards for miners who secure it with their computational resources.
What benefits does ICP offer over traditional cloud computing networks?
