Hyperledger Besu is an open-source Ethereum client developed under the Apache 2.0 license and maintained by the Hyperledger project. It is written in Java and supports both private networks, as well as public Mainnet and various test networks such as Rinkeby, Ropsten, Görli, and Kovan.
The goal of Hyperledger Besu is to provide a stable platform for enterprises to build their applications on top of Ethereum’s distributed ledger technology (DLT). It provides support for privacy-preserving smart contracts using off-chain computation through zero-knowledge proofs or other mechanisms while still allowing developers to use all features offered by Ethereum’s Virtual Machine (EVM) such as Solidity programming language, gas fees associated with executing transactions or deploying smart contracts.
In addition to its focus on enterprise blockchain solutions, Hyperledger Besu also includes features that make it suitable for decentralized application development including web3 API compatibility, permissioning capabilities via local user accounts or external authorization services like OAuth2 providers or LDAP servers and a built-in JSON RPC server for connecting wallets and dapps to the network.
