Visa is a global payments technology company that connects consumers, businesses, financial institutions, and governments in more than 200 countries and territories. The company has made headlines recently with the announcement of its entrance into the world of cryptocurrencies. As part of this move, Visa has appointed a Head of Crypto to lead its cryptocurrency initiatives.
The Head of Crypto at Visa is responsible for leading all aspects related to the company’s entry into the crypto space. This includes overseeing product development and partnerships; managing relationships with key stakeholders including banks, regulators, exchanges, merchants and other payment organisations; ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations; driving strategy around new business models; developing appropriate risk management practices; and acting as an ambassador for Visa’s crypto-related activities externally.
The role requires significant technical knowledge as well as experience in digital asset payments or blockchain platforms. Additionally, strong leadership skills are essential given the dynamic nature of this space which requires flexibility to accommodate changes in regulation or customer demands on short notice.
The current Head Of Crypto at Visa is Cuy Sheffield who was previously VP & Global Lead Blockchain within Mastercard’s Digital Asset & Blockchain Products Group where he had responsibility over research on incentives & adoption strategies across several areas such as blockchain technologies/cryptocurrencies/digital assets/decentralized finance (DeFi). Prior to that he held various roles throughout his career such as Product Management Director at Barclays Bank PLC., Senior Manager Financial Services Advisory Practice at Ernst & Young LLP., Vice President – Capital Markets Technology Strategy Leader from JPMorgan Chase Co.. He also serves on several boards focused on innovation: Chainlink Unlocked (advisor); OpenSea (board member); SludgeFeed (founder).
