Esports, also known as electronic sports or competitive gaming, is a form of competition that is facilitated by video games. Esports typically involve multiple players competing either individually or in teams against each other on various game titles in order to determine the winner. These competitions can take place online or at physical locations and are often broadcasted for spectators to watch.

The most popular esports titles include League of Legends (LoL), Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO), Dota 2, Overwatch and Call of Duty. Other popular games such as Fortnite and Apex Legends have recently emerged onto the scene but those two titles have yet to be featured in major esports tournaments. In addition, there are many other lesser-known independent titles out there that feature some level of competitive play as well.

In terms of prize money awarded during tournaments, League of Legends has been the most lucrative title thus far with over $125 million awarded since its inception back in 2009; second highest would be CS:GO with just over $81 million given out since 2013; followed by Dota 2 at around $79 million since 2011; then Overwatch with nearly $21 million since 2016; and finally Call Of Duty at approximately $19 million from 2015 onwards.

Esports are becoming increasingly popular due to their highly entertaining nature which attracts millions of viewers both online through livestreaming platforms like Twitch TV or YouTube Gaming as well as offline via traditional television broadcasts where available . As such , organizations such as ESL – Electronic Sports League – have popped up all over the globe with an aim to create an environment where professional gamers can thrive while facing off against one another for fame and fortune .

With the world’s population continuously growing ever more fond towards competitive gaming it’s no surprise that numerous cryptocurrency projects have cropped up over recent years seeking ways to integrate blockchain technology into existing eSports ecosystems . This integration promises higher levels transparency when conducting monetary transactions between tournament organizers , sponsors , teams , and players alike while simultaneously providing users with a secure platform for wagering on upcoming matches without having worry about potential fraudulence taking place behind closed doors .
