# Email Spoofing
Email spoofing is a type of cyber attack in which an attacker sends emails from a forged email address. The goal of this type of attack is to gain access to sensitive information or cause harm by sending malicious content.
The most common form of email spoofing involves forging the ‘from’ address, making it appear as if the message came from someone other than the actual sender. This can be done with special software that allows anyone to create and send messages with any ‘From’ address they choose. Attackers may also forge other parts of an email header such as the reply-to or subject line, but these are less effective since most mail servers have anti-spoofing measures in place to detect them.
In order to protect yourself from email spoofing attacks, there are several steps you can take:
1) Use strong passwords for all your accounts and enable two factor authentication (2FA). 2FA adds an extra layer of security by requiring users to enter a unique code sent via SMS or generated through an app before being able to log into their account.
2) Avoid clicking on suspicious links found in emails; instead, open your browser and manually navigate directly to the website where you believe that link might lead you.
3) Verify who actually sent you the email by looking up their contact details online or calling them directly if possible. Make sure not only that they exist but also whether they were actually responsible for sending out the message in question.
4) Install antivirus software on all devices connected to your network and keep it updated regularly so it can detect any malicious activities quickly and efficiently. 5) Be aware that some companies use digital signature technology when sending out important emails so make sure not verify those signatures first before opening any attachments included within them
