Depression of 1921
The Depression of 1921 was a severe economic downturn in the United States and other countries that began after World War I ended. It followed the same pattern as previous depressions, with sharp declines in production and employment, high unemployment rates, deflationary pressures on wages, rising bankruptcies among businesses large and small, ballooning public debt levels due to war-related spending along with tight credit policies by banks which restricted lending. The depression lasted until late 1922 when business activity started to pick up again leading into what would be known as “the roaring twenties”.

At the time cryptocurrencies did not exist so there is no direct evidence from this period about its effect on cryptocurrency markets. However it can be assumed that any economic crisis such as a depression will have an impact on investor confidence across all asset classes including digital currencies or tokens like Bitcoin or Ethereum for example. In today’s world investors often turn to safer investments during periods of financial instability so demand for crypto assets could potentially decline if people become worried about their finances during times like these. Additionally tighter monetary policy conditions may lead central banks to raise interest rates which can also affect investor sentiment towards riskier investments like cryptocurrencies even though they are largely unregulated at present day compared to traditional ones such as stocks/bonds etc.
