Department of Justice (DOJ)

The Department of Justice is a federal executive department responsible for the enforcement of United States criminal and civil law. It was established in 1870 by President Ulysses S. Grant, who appointed the first Attorney General, Amos T. Akerman. The current Attorney General is Merrick B. Garland; he was nominated to office on February 19, 2021 and confirmed on March 11, 2021 following his predecessor William Barr’s resignation from office in December 2020 after serving four years under former President Donald Trump’s administration.

As it relates to cryptocurrency regulation and enforcement action related to digital assets such as Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies, the DOJ has jurisdiction over certain activities that could potentially be considered illegal depending upon applicable laws at both the state and federal level. This includes investigating cases involving money laundering using virtual currency exchanges or services, fraud committed through cybercrime schemes involving cryptocurrencies like ransomware payments made with them , terrorist financing activity conducted via darknet marketplaces utilizing digital coins , tax evasion tied to trading profits generated from these forms of money among others . Additionally while not directly within its purview addressing consumer protection concerns when they arise due to mistreatment / exploitation in this area would likely fall within its domain as well given how important investor safety & security should remain especially during times when new technologies take hold rapidly across all industries impacting people’s lives profoundly each day – which certainly applies here too!

To sum up : The Department Of Justice plays an essential role overseeing many aspects pertaining specifically towards crypto-related issues whether it pertains strictly financial matters such as those listed above but also broader questions concerning potential abuses occurring against consumers by unscrupulous actors attempting taking advantage unsuspecting investors entrusting their funds into various projects touting themselves despite being inherently untrustworthy endeavors often backed little more than empty promises designed only enrich creators without providing any real value users buying tokens/coins involved thereby making sure justice prevails overall no matter what form money takes .
