Congressman Blaine Luetkemeyer is a Republican member of the United States House of Representatives, representing Missouri’s 3rd congressional district. He was first elected to the office in 2008 and has been re-elected ever since.
Luetkemeyer is an advocate for blockchain technology and cryptocurrency regulation. In 2018 he proposed legislation that would require companies dealing with digital assets like cryptocurrencies to register as money services businesses with FinCEN (the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network). On April 2020 Congressman Luetkemeyer reintroduced his original bill from 2018 aiming at preventing frauds involving virtual currency trading platform customers by expanding customer protections under anti-money laundering laws enforced by FinCEN . According to him this new version includes updated definitions reflecting advancements made in crypto over recent years including stable coins backed 1:1 against fiat currencies such us USDT issued by Tether Inc., Libra Coin created by Facebook Inc., along other modern developments associated with digital asset markets worldwide
