What is a CFO?

A Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is the senior executive responsible for managing the financial activities of an organization. The role typically involves developing and implementing strategies related to financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, reporting, risk management and corporate finance. The CFO oversees accounting operations including accounts payable/receivable, payroll taxes and other regulatory filings as well as treasury functions such as cash flow projections. They are also usually involved in banking relationships with lenders or investors and may coordinate investor relations activities. Additionally they often manage mergers & acquisitions activity on behalf of the company’s board of directors or shareholders. In some organizations they may take on additional roles beyond those traditionally associated with their function such as strategic decision-making regarding investments or business development initiatives which can include cryptocurrency investments or ventures into blockchain technology solutions.
