The Central Bank of Venezuela (BCV) is the central bank and monetary authority of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. It was established in 1939 as part of a reorganization within the Ministry of Finance, and has since evolved into an independent public entity with its own legal identity. The BCV is responsible for managing all aspects related to Venezuelan money supply, including providing currency notes and coins; keeping foreign exchange reserves; setting interest rates; controlling borrowing from abroad by Venezuelan entities; regulating banking activities through capital controls and other measures such as establishing minimum reserve requirements; issuing regulations on payment systems used in both domestic commerce or international trade payments between Venezuelans living abroad/foreigners living inside our country’s borders); overseeing financial stability throughout the economy by monitoring credit conditions, solvency levels among banks, asset prices etc.; carrying out research about macroeconomic developments so that it can provide informed advice to policy makers regarding how best to achieve economic objectives such as price stability or full employment goals.
