Berkshire Hathaway is an American multinational conglomerate holding company headquartered in Omaha, Nebraska. The company owns and operates a diversified portfolio of businesses that are engaged in insurance, freight rail transportation, utilities and energy, finance, manufacturing, retailing and services. It was founded by Warren Buffett as Berkshire Fine Spinning Associates on May 10th 1955 with $105 million dollars of capital from seven investors.
Since then it has grown to become one of the largest companies in America with a market cap over $500 billion dollars. Berkshire Hathaway’s stock is considered to be a ‘blue chip’ stock due its long history of outperforming the S&P 500 index since 1965 when the first class B shares were offered for sale publicly . As well as this it has been extremely successful at generating outsized returns for shareholders through careful investments under Mr Buffet’s guidance – making him one of the world’s most successful investors ever seen!
As we move into more digital assets such as cryptocurrencies many have speculated what role if any will Berkshire Hathaway play? So far there has been no indication that they plan on investing or trading crypto assets but given their track record it wouldn’t be surprising if they do enter this space eventually however only time will tell what direction they take..
