What is the All Progressives Congress (APC)?
The All Progressives Congress, commonly referred to as APC, is a political party in Nigeria founded on 6 February 2013. It was formed by merging several opposition parties including Action Congress of Nigeria, All Nigerian Peoples Party and others. The aim of this merger was to create an effective challenge to then ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP). The current president Muhammadu Buhari belongs to the APC and he led it into victory at the 2015 presidential election.
Since its formation in 2013, APC has been very active in Nigerian politics. Its primary goals include strengthening national unity; creating jobs for Nigerians; improving access to healthcare and education services; fighting corruption; eliminating poverty; increasing economic growth through privatization initiatives and other measures that will benefit each citizen equally regardless of gender or religion. In addition, it strives for greater transparency within government institutions such as police forces so they can work more efficiently towards these same aims while also protecting citizens’ rights better than before.
The party currently has a majority hold over both chambers of legislature – Senate & House Representatives – which gives them immense power when enacting new laws or making changes concerning important matters like budget allocations etcetera across all 36 states plus FCT Abuja regionally-governed territories within Nigeria itself.. This allows their agenda items – ranging from social welfare improvements right up through ensuring peace between different ethnicities throughout country borders – have much easier time passing due legislative processes but not without some resistance due competing interests amongst other governing bodies operating there too obviously enough!
