All-Items Index
An all-items index is an economic indicator that measures the changes in price of a basket of goods and services. It is used to measure inflation or deflation over time, as well as providing insight into general trends in the economy. The all-items index typically includes items from various sectors such as food, transportation, housing, health care and energy prices. The calculation for an All Items Index involves compiling data related to different categories/sectors which are then weighted together according to their importance relative to each other based upon expenditure patterns observed in households across income levels and demographic groups.
