On April 5, 2023, blog writer Andy Baio wrote a piece on his Waxy Blog website. He revealed that each macOS version from Mojave 10.14.0 to the latest one includes a copy of Satoshi Nakamoto’s famous Bitcoin white paper. If Mac users type a simple code in the terminal, then this white paper will appear as a PDF document in their Preview image viewer.
Uncovering Bitcoin’s Mysterious Past
Recently, people celebrated a special day (April 5th) which was supposedly the birthday of Satoshi Nakamoto. During this celebration, supporters of bitcoin realized that many Mac computers were actually equipped with the original version of the Bitcoin paper. It’s like finding something exciting hidden inside your computer! A screenshot of this PDF file is also available for you to check out.
A person named Andy Baio wrote a blog post called “The Bitcoin White Paper Is Hidden in Every Modern Copy of macOS”. He found a hidden file while he was trying to fix his printer and asked many of his friends who also used Macs to verify that this was true.
If you type the right command in your Mac’s terminal, you can open a Bitcoin PDF in Preview. If you don’t know how to use the macOS terminal, Baio explains how to access the file through the library folder of your operating system.
Baio was wondering why the Bitcoin white paper was so popular. He also found out that people had already talked about it in the Apple forum.
Five years ago, some news spread around social media after someone posted about it online. No one knows why Apple put the Bitcoin white paper in their operating system, but people are happy anyway. It was confirmed that two Mac computers had the white paper on them.
