Canadian rapper and singer Drake lost $400,000 in bitcoin after betting against Jake Paul. In a close bout that went to the wire, Tommy Fury emerged as the victor, by a split-decision victory. Bitcoin is a digital currency that is not backed by any national government or institution. As a result, this loss could have potentially been huge for Drake. But even more so, given the recent hype around this new form of currency, this loss will likely only add fuel to the fire.

Jake Paul Gets Beat by Tommy Fury in Close Bout

In 2023, YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul was stopped by Tommy Fury in a close bout, with Fury winning by split decision (74-75, 76-73, 76-73).

Prior to the fight, the rap star and actor Drake placed a $400,000 bitcoin wager on the bout, or roughly 17 BTC. When the fight happened, Drake lost $400,000 in bitcoin when he bet on the mixed martial artist Jorge Masvidal’s fight and he also lost $234,000 in bitcoin when Charles Leclerc did not win Spain’s Grand Prix.

Following the fight and speaking at a post-fight press conference, Paul joked about Drake’s bet. He said “I just don’t ever think people that wear OVO do well in boxing. It just doesn’t seem like their thing. But hats off to him – as he did put in a good performance.”

Drake may have lost a big bitcoin bet on Jake Paul, but the Toronto rapper still emerged victorious in the battle of the century. The two rap stars faced off in a close bout that was decided by the judges, who awarded the victory to Tommy Fury. Although the loss is likely to disappoint Drake, it’s clear that he has the skills and the charisma to rival any other rapper out there.
