What Could The Pokémon Company’s Move to the Metaverse Mean for Nintendo Fans?

The Pokemon Company, which is responsible for managing the Pokemon franchise and its related activities, appears to be planning something. They recently posted a job notice that asks for people with expertise in blockchain, Web3, and investing in the metaverse.

The people that make Pokemon might be taking the game to a new level. Fans are thinking that a new job opening with knowledge of something called the “metaverse” and this thing called “Web3” could mean they’re planning to do something bigger. The company is in charge of making sure the brand and distributing all the Pokemon items, but not really responsible for creating the actual games.

The Pokemon Company is looking for someone to join their team as a Corporate Development Principal. This person would be in charge of building strategies to help the company grow, as well as coming up with new ideas and improvements for the brand. They are also looking for this person to have knowledge about the metaverse (a virtual world).

To qualify for this job, you have to have a lot of knowledge about the World Wide Web (often called “Web3”), blockchain technology, and Non-Fungible Tokens (known as NFTs). You also need to be connected with people who invest in these types of industries.

Nintendo’s NFTs & Metaverse Plans

This job opening has made some Pokemon fans worry because it looks like Nintendo might be planning to make something called NFTs or a new world based on Pokemon. One person, who has played the game for 10 years, was actually scared by this news and tweeted: “People are going to lose interest in Pokemon if this happens.”

Other companies like Niantic have already made virtual reality-enhanced Pokemon games, but Nintendo is still not sure if it wants to try this. The President of Nintendo, Shuntaro Furukawa said that the metaverse has potential but they would need something new and exciting to do it. He was saying they want something fresh and exciting before they experiment with metaverse technology.

“We’re trying to figure out a way so that people can understand ‘Nintendo’s approach’ to the metaverse. That would be different from other game companies, like Square Enix, Bandai Namco, and Sega, who already have plans involving NFTs, Web3, and metaverse stuff.”
