The BRICS countries are working on rules and guidelines because more countries are asking to be part of them. South Africa’s Foreign Affairs Minister Naledi Pandor said that many nations want to join a group that is up-to-date, welcoming, and focused on helping everybody.

Growing Bigger and More Influential

Naledi Pandor, who is South Africa’s Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, said that the BRICS countries – Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa – are creating rules for other nations to join them. South Africa holds the position of president of this economic bloc this year.

At the meeting about making things fairer in the world, Pandor said that a lot of countries were interested in joining the BRICS group. The leaders are going to talk about it at the BRICS summit and decide if people from these countries could officially become members.

The BRICS nations are growing bigger and have more influence around the world. According to South Africa’s ambassador, Anil Sooklal, 13 countries have made official requests to join the group while 6 others have asked informally. Saudi Arabia and Iran are two countries that want to be part of this organization.

Pandor said that it’s very important for countries to work together and form big alliances. The United Nations should help make these alliances happen in order to have a nice future with many opportunities. She said the BRICS group is really good at helping this happen.

Many countries are now interested in a new and different kind of group that can bring everyone together for the benefit of everybody.

South Africa has had positive results because they work closely with the group BRICS. In 2017, South Africa’s exports to BRICS countries were valued at $25 billion but by 2021 that figure had increased to an impressive $36 billion. What’s more, South Africa was able to get over $5 billion from this group’s New Development Bank for key projects involving renewable energy and water sources.

The BRICS group is trying to create a shared currency that would help its members be less dependent on the U.S. dollar. This topic will likely be discussed at the BRICS leaders meeting in August.
